One of my all time favourite things to do is to look at past collections and today it so happened that I dived into the Givenchy Fall 2010 couture collection. It has been three years and yet I still remember laying my eyes on these out of these world dresses for the very first time. Light, flesh colours and even golds were in abundance with a small splash of chocolate seen on feathers. Dresses encrusted with gold paillettes, stones and beads that oozed extravagance - Elaborate designs are an understatement and that is just what I love to see. Chantilly lace was duplicated onto appliqué leather and then the dress ended with a cascading amount of ostrich feathers. Designs like these make my heart flutter with excitement and lust, the sheer craftsmanship, detailing as tiny as the zipper pulls being little bones or the belt being a spinal column made from porcelain. The motif and inspiration behind this collection for Tisci was the skeleton - Making an appearance laid out flat on the lace appliquéd on a billowing amount of tulle or perhaps rendered in 3D in a dense amount of crystals, pearls and lace on the back of a jacket in double silk. Need I say no more!? Utter perfection still three years on from when this collection waltzed into the ornamental salon.
