Opa!! That was the
word of the day amongst the festivities of the Paniyri Greek Festival in
Brisbane – A true kaleidoscope of culture is what the Paniyiri Greek Festival
is all about. Bringing the heart of Greece to the doorstep of Brisbane; Which
it does perfectly!
Traditional Greek
music played on the Bouzouki, Tarabuka, Lira and Laouto filled the air of
Musgrave Park where some of the famous Greek dances such as the Zorba, Sirto,
Kalamatiano and Sousta took center stage. Before I knew it the atmosphere had
soaked into my skin and I was saying Opa just because I could, enjoying the
beautiful clear skies, the sun on my skin it was time for the main attraction;
Food!
30 food stalls filled
Musgrave Park, showcasing the tastes and the secrets of food from all the
corners of Greece. Wafts of mouth-watering delights made your senses tingle and
not to mention your stomachs rumble in anticipation. From the scrumptious
savory pleasures such as Yiros, Souvlaki, Octopus, Haloumi and Mousaka to of course the sweet treats – Baklava,
Honey Puffs, Kataifi, Shortbread, Nut Rolls and Galaktoboureko.
Even though the steps
of the Acropolis are 15,000 kilometers away from the streets of Brisbane – The
sights, sounds, people, food and the culture in all its glory was on full
display to show the people of Brisbane what the Greek culture is all about. I of course am truly impressed and I am now
prepared to take it on in the land itself when I make my way to Greece next
month.
After indulging in
this amazing food! (I am now obsessed with Greek food) I decided to take a walk
along Southbank to take in the sights and the sunshine. Stopping to take in the
sheer size of the Channel 7 Ferris Wheel and the gorgeous temple that are
dotted along the riverbank of Brisbane.
What I wore:
Top: Sportsgirl / Skirt: Bardot Stretch PU Skirt / Bag: Mimco Turnlock Zip Top / Necklace: Diva / Ring: Saint Laurent / Shoes: Urge
Amazing look, love the skirt! :D
