Once Upon A Time a Film by Karl Lagerfeld

Thursday 9 May 2013

I posted a few weeks ago in regards to how excited I was with the release of the trailer for Karl Lagerfeld's latest extraordinary short movie "Once Upon A Time" celebrating the 100th anniversary of Coco Chanel's boutique. Now I am even more excited to show you stills and of course the film in its entirety!

Shot in black and white in the French seaside town of Deauville circa 1913,  the short film portrays the story of Gabrielle Chanel, a struggling shopkeeper who is longing for business. In time the business flourishes and soon a parade of the rich, eccentric, daring and gorgeous women are seen wandering through the doors. The elite clientele for Gabrielle Chanel in the film were non other filled by some of the most elegant and stunning women of todays era - Enter Wixson, Ashleigh Good, Tallulah Harlech, Caroline de Maigret, Amanda Harlech, Stella Tennant, Jamie Bochert, and Saskia de Brauw - who of course carefully selected and bought Chanel's merchandise.

I of course am biased - being the Chanel OBSESSED girl that I am and a Lagerfeld lover through and through I am simply in awe of this masterpiece Lagerfeld has created yet again. From the set representing that Deauville street where you can smell the ocean in the air, the oh so Chanel boutique, to the extras walking along the street all dressed up just how they did it 100 years ago and I can't forget to mention the costumes of the leading ladies! Elegantly dressed, draped in pearls, hats sitting pretty above chignon styled hair, a monochromic colour palette that oozes chic - It makes me want jump through my screen and experience the evolution of Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel all for myself from the very beginning, but sadly that can't happen so instead I will watch this eighteen minute plus film and get lost in it time and time again. It might have just been me but how incredibly dreamy was Boy Capel *sighs*
