Recipe: Love Heart Shaped Chocolate Chip Cookies

Thursday 14 February 2013

A very happy valentines day to you all! I hope you all have some romance float through your day today whether you go out and buy yourself a little something special (some ideas here) or you have that incredible person in your life that you can spend time with on this magical day. For me today is going to consist of drinking a cup of tea, reading the latest issue of Vogue Australia and eating some mouth watering chocolate chip cookies! Oh that are heart shaped I can't forget that majorly sweet factor!

Ingredients:

1 cup of butter, room temperature
1 cup of granulated sugar
1/2 cups of dark brown sugar
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 teaspoon of fine sea salt
1 teaspoon of vanilla
2 extra large eggs, room temperature
2 1/4 cups of all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoons of cinnamon
2 cups of semi sweet chocolate chips or chunks
1/2 cups of milk chocolate chips or chunks

Method:

1. Preheat the oven to 170 degrees celsius - In a bowl whisk the cinnamon into the flour. In an electric mixer with a paddle attachment, put the butter, both sugars, baking soda, sea salt and vanilla and beat on a medium speed until the ingredients come together as a mass.

2. Add the eggs one at a time, until they are both fully incorporated, stopping to scrape sides when needed. On low add the flour and cinnamon mixture and beat until incorporated. Add the chocolate chips and beat until incorporated.

3. On 1-2 baking trays line them with parchment paper, drop the batter by heaping tablespoons with the mixture or you can also use an ice-cream scoop. Bake for 13-15 minutes, turning midway until golden brown on the edges. Leave to cool.

Heart Shape cookies:

To cut them into heart shapes I was going to do this while they were on the baking tray and not baked however the mixture is incredibly sticky and simply wasn't working. I waited until they were cooled and then pressed the cutter into the cookie, you do get left overs but this makes it all the more fun as you can eat it!

Enjoy!
